About Nell

I was born and raised in south Mississippi among farmers, teachers and storytellers. These roots run through my core being. They strongly influence my writing and shape four major themes in my life: awe for God's created universe, deep connectedness and love of family, passion for books and education and an abiding fascination with the stories of a God who loves and cares.

I completed my last two years of high school at Abbot Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. In 1960 I was awarded a B.A. from Vassar College. Later I received other educational degrees that include Master of Library Science (M.L.S.), Master of Religious Education (M.R.E.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.).

For over thirty years I served in church educational ministry in Mississippi, Texas and Arizona and worked in school and public libraries. I retired from the Fort Worth Public Library in 2004 to become a full time caregiver for my husband Bob. We have five grown children and fifteen grandchildren. Our church home is St. Barnabas United Methodist Church in Arlington, Texas.
